چکیده
We describe state of the art methods for the calculation of electronic excitations in solids and molecules, based on many body perturbation theory, and we discuss some applications of these methods to the study of band edges and absorption processes in representative materials used as photoelectrodes for water splitting.

All-Order Methods for Relativistic Atomic Structure Calculations
All-order extensions of relativistic atomic many-body perturbation theory are described and applied to predict properties of heavy atoms. Limitations of relativistic many-body perturbation theory are first discussed and the need for all-order calculations is established. An account is then given of relativistic all-order calculations based on a linearized version of the coupled-cluster expansio...
متن کاملFirst-principles dynamics of electrons and phonons
First-principles calculations combining density functional theory and many-body perturbation theory can provide microscopic insight into the dynamics of electrons and phonons in materials. We review this theoretical and computational framework, focusing on perturbative treatments of scattering, dynamics and transport of coupled electrons and phonons. We discuss application of these first-princi...
متن کاملMany-body and model-potential calculations of low-energy photoionization parameters for francium
The photoionization cross section s , spin-polarization parameters P and Q, and the angular-distribution asymmetry parameter b are calculated for the 7s state of francium for photon energies below 10 eV. Two distinct calculations are presented, one based on many-body perturbation theory and another based on the model potential method. Although predictions of the two calculations are similar, th...
متن کامل1 Scientific Highlight of the Month
We give a summary of recent progress in the field of electronic structure calculations for materials with strong electronic Coulomb correlations. The discussion focuses on developments beyond the by now well established combination of density functional and dynamical mean field theory dubbed “LDA+DMFT”. It is organized around the description of dynamical screening effects in the solid. Indeed, ...
متن کاملStructure and electronic properties of single–walled zigzag BN and B3C2N3 nanotubes using first-principles methods
The structure and the electronic properties of single-walled zigzag BN and B3C2N3 nanotubes (n, 0; n=4–10) were investigated using first-principles calculations based on a density functional theory. A plane–wave basis set with periodic boundary conditions in conjunction with Vanderbilt ultrasoft pseudo-potential was employed. The energy gap of ZB3C<su...
